Microloc maintenance requires a little more planning. Because the number of locs, amount of new growth, maintenance method, and time needed can vary significantly from guest to guest, new microloc guests must complete a Loc Consultation before booking a retie.
During your consultation, I’ll assess your locs, discuss your current maintenance routine, and determine the appropriate service and timing for your first appointment.

How your locs are maintained matters. Different techniques work for different locs, lifestyles, and maintenance routines. Here’s a simple breakdown of the methods used at Serenity.

A retwist gently guides your new growth back into your locs using controlled twisting techniques.
At Serenity, we don’t use gels or waxes for retwisting. Instead, we use a lightweight mousse to help create a clean finish without coating your locs with heavy products that can contribute to buildup.
A retwist may be right for you if you:
✓ Prefer traditional loc maintenance
✓ Like a softer, less structured root appearance between visits
✓ Maintain traditional or larger locs
✓ Are comfortable returning regularly for maintenance
Good to know: Retwists naturally loosen over time, especially after washing, sweating, or getting your hair wet. That's completely normal and doesn't mean your retwist wasn't done properly.

A retie uses an interlocking technique to incorporate new growth directly into the loc, creating a more secure root that doesn't unravel when wet.
A retie may be right for you if you:
✓ Want longer-lasting root maintenance
✓ Wash your locs frequently
✓ Work out, swim, or have an active lifestyle
✓ Prefer a more secure maintenance method
✓ Have locs already established and maintained with interlocking
Good to know: Reties require consistency and proper technique. If you're considering switching from retwisting to interlocking, we may need to talk about whether it's appropriate for your locs first.
Have microlocs? New microloc guests must complete a consultation before booking their first retie at Serenity.

Supportive Loc Maintenance & Repair
At Serenity, crochet isn't offered as a standalone maintenance method.
Instead, I use crochet when your locs need a little extra support alongside your regular retwist or retie.
Crochet may be used to:
✓ Repair weak or damaged areas
✓ Reattach a loc when appropriate
✓ Reinforce thinning areas
✓ Tidy loose hair that needs more than regular maintenance
✓ Support locs that need a little structural help
Think of crochet as another tool in the loc-care toolbox, not a replacement for your regular maintenance method.
